The Story Behind the Name

Original Cost: $2,798,487 Opened: 1984

Riverside Elementary received its name from the neighborhood it was built to serve - Riverside Green. Riverside Green was the first tracked housing neighborhood in the Dublin Local School District. Riverside Green was picked by the developers of the new neighborhood due to its proximity to the Scioto River. It is a walking, old-fashioned neighborhood school where intergenerational families still stay connected within the neighborhood and support the school in many ways. The neighborhood is very proud that it came together to build its Imagine Community Garden. It all began with past parent Mike Davis and retired teacher, Joe Shaughnessy. In 2012, when the garden needed a reboot, the neighborhood created the Harvest Garden-to-Picnic-Blanket gathering, which includes on-site cooking stations, a taco truck, a local band and face painting. This has become an annual back-to-school family feast in the backyard of the school. Each year, a committee of parents comes together to manage the upkeep of the garden. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, Riverside fifth graders had just begun to grow plants from seeds in the hallways of the school. They had grow-lights and a watering system set up but then had to leave the school due to the shutdown. A caring teacher brought the plants home to care for them until planting time. The Imagine Community Garden is a great source of pride for the Riverside Elementary community.

The building is 50,872 square feet in size.

District enrollment when the building opened was 3,364 students.
